Meet Smokey

Meet Smokey, a proper Southern gentleman! Smokey is a 13 year old, 77lb bluetick coonhound mix. Pre-rescue, he spent his life as an outdoor dog roaming his family's land in Tennessee. Now he's looking for a comfy home where he can relax and enjoy his retirement.

Smokey's ideal family is patient and understanding, someone willing to put down rugs so he won't have trouble standing up on slippery hardwood floors or tile. They are easy-going and quiet. While Smokey doesn't need company 24/7, he needs someone who is home to let him use the bathroom every 6 hours or so (as an older gentleman, he is house trained of course). He would love a house with a yard so he can continue to enjoy the great outdoors, though it is not a requirement so long as his new family helps him to do the thing he loves most - nice walks in nature-filled places. He would also love an adopter who can help him gain some weight; he has turned his foster mom into a dog-food chef, enjoying warm broth and rice in his kibble as well as the occasional turkey sandwich (his order is honey wheat bread and turkey only, please).

No one deserves a happy home more than Smokey does. With the patience to gain his trust, anyone could fall in love with this guy. If you have the relaxing retirement home Smokey is looking for, apply to adopt him today!

This pet's adoption fee is $100. He is being fostered in Manhattan.

All of our dogs come spayed or neutered, fully up to date on vaccinations, including rabies (if age appropriate) and bordetella, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals.

For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the dog you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible.

We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where dogs can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting a dog in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.

Thanks so much for caring about a needy animal!
