Meet Skittles: Adopted!
1/30/2018: Skittles has gone to a foster home, and if all works out then she will be adopted by her foster parent... fingers crossed for our little girl!
Check out the tail-waggin’ video of Skittles and one of her buddies, Jellybean!
Date of birth: 4/2011
11/11/2017: Skittles is a super cute little Jack Russell/Rat Terrier mix. She’s 6 years old. When Skittles first arrived she was very scared and just wanted to run and hide. Now that she’s familiar with us and the daily routine, she’s doing much much better. She likes being petted and gives kisses, and is good with being leashed up for walks. She's even able to go to our satellite adoption events now! She’ll need a home with someone who has dog experience and will be patient with her, and past experience with a shy dog would be very beneficial. We'd like to place her in a home with someone who is home quite a lot.. Skittles likes other dogs and does well with other small adult dogs in her playgroup out in the yard-- the puppies kind of annoy her. If you have a dog, we’d ask you to make an appointment to bring your dog in to meet Skittles before adopting her to see if they like each other. She needs a home without small children. She’s pretty active and a home with a fenced yard would be ideal.
Skittles has been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and tested for heartworms. We're so happy with the progress she's made and know she'll be a sweet little companion if given the chance.
MORE ON ADOPTING OUR DOGS...
Please visit our web site at HSGKC.ORG for more information about our adoption process, our adoption fees and all that's included, and for a pet adoption application.
> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. We encourage you to fill out an online adoption application and submit it before you come to see us. This helps us process your application more quickly and we can schedule an appointment for you to come in so that our small staff can serve you best. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of the pets you meet, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the pet home with you that day. We’ll instead schedule a pick up date and time that’s convenient for you.
> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home. All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (7 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, coupons for pet supplies and services, toys, and educational materials. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!
> Please note that we prefer and may require a fenced yard for many of our dogs. Exceptions are made on an individual basis depending on the dog's needs, the person's dog experience, the dog's and person's activity levels, home environment and other factors.
Thank you for searching for a shelter pet!
