Meet Skittles

Hi there! My name is Skittles and though I'm little I sure am mighty! I'm a female black lab mix and approximately 4 months old. I'm vaccinated and dewormed. I'm working on my training, specifically sit, stay, drop it, leave it and leash manners! I'm a smart girl so I will have this down in no time. I love toys and getting rowdy with my sister. I can play a little rough so this is a work in progress but likely other well rounded dogs will teach me over time.

I live for a crinkly toy or anything that makes some sound. I have ALL the energy so if you're looking for a partner for adventures I may be the gal for you. I can sometimes nip a little at the hand that's playing with me so I do need to learn some boundaries. If I nip at you it's a good idea to replace your hand with something I can chew on... remaining calm when I mouth is key to teaching me it is not a game, quickly pulling away can make me think I should try to chase it.

I'm so brave there is nothing I seem to be afraid of, foster mom wonders if it's because I'm so tiny that I need to be just so darn brave! I have walked right into the shower with foster mom and sat down, I'm telling you, there is nothing I fear.

I have other dogs in my foster home that I get along with really well, so it's safe to say I will be fine with a brother or sister. I haven't met any cats but since I'm young, if you put in the time to teach me to respect their space I should do fine. A very dog savvy cat might be just what I need. I live with kids in my foster home and boy do I like to play with them, I can be quite mouthy and I like to jump so that should be kept in mind for homes with really small children.

My food drive is quite high, and I will do anything for it. I still have the mentality that I have to fight for my food, I may benefit from being fed separately in my crate so I don't think I need to protect my food. I will likely climb you like a tree if I think you have some food, but on the plus side a high food drive makes me a great candidate for training with food! If I'll do anything for food maybe I'll do some tricks too.

I don't seem to mind any strangers and like to greet them by jumping on them, it's best to ignore this behaviour and only pay attention to me when all four are on the floor (paws that is). I'm working on my potty training, I have had accidents in the house. I find what works best is to be let out every hour during the day, once I figure out that outside is where I need to do my business you will be able to decrease the amount of times I need to go out. If you are willing to do crate training (which I haven't had yet) getting me out for a bathroom break immediately after coming out of the crate should help stop the accidents as well.

I am good in the car and don't seem to have any issues, I think I will make a great adventure buddy for you!
