Meet Skipper
Skipper is approximately 2 years old and weighs 35 lbs. He's just about the perfect dog! He's athletic, affectionate, loves his person and wants to "please," is learning basic commands, love other dogs and all people.
We received an update from Skipper's foster mom on Jan. 28, 2024:
**Skipper has now been with us for 3 weeks and has entirely settled in to our routine - with two older dogs and one young cat. He loves to go for walks with the two dogs and is very well-mannered on the leash. No pulling at all. He loves his crate and willingly goes in at night and remains content until morning when he excitedly greets me and happily goes outside for morning business with the other dogs. He LIVES to chase after balls, sticks, or toys. He will retrieve and drop them at your feet as many times as you toss them for him. He is a total snuggle bug and, after play time, is happy to lay on one of the dog beds and chill with the other dogs, or on the couch beside me and just relax. He barks only when there is something he needs to alert me to. He is good with well-behaved dogs and also when meeting new people - warming up quickly to those who offer ear scratches. The people he already knows get an excited tail wag and a “please throw something for me to retrieve” look. He rides well in a car… tethered in the back seat for safety. He responds to commands… Come, Sit, Stay. This dog is an absolute joy to have in my home. Someone is going to be very blessed to add Skipper to their family!!
**********
Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.
If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.
A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. Requirement is a minimum three-year vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. We suggest first time pet owners without a vet history look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience. Other rescues or your local government-run animal control agency may have different adoption requirements.
Adoption fee covers two vaccinations. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.
We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is www.FoothillsCanineRescue.org.
We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue with a few of our sweet ones in our shelter located next to Waggin' Tail Resale (220 Joyceton Church Road) in Lenoir. We receive no funding from agencies.
