Meet Simba

Meet Simba, the dog with a heart of a lion! Simba was neglected for 3 years, alone in a backyard 24/7. He slowly lost most of his vision due to untreated cataracts, causing his retinas to detach. He was under-socialized, underweight, heartworm positive and had lost much of his hair. One day, the only people he knew put him on a leash and put him in the car. Imagine his excitement to be near them and to be included! But, they were taking him to be euthanized and that turned out to be Simba’s lucky break. He was saved by the veterinarian on-duty and is now with WAGS Fund.

Fast forward almost a year – Simba is a strong, happy and very healthy dog! While his vision cannot be restored, the condition causes him no pain. He and his foster mom partner with a professional dog trainer, introducing him to new social excursions. While sometimes a little unsure, he gains confidence with every outing. Simba has embraced being part of a home and family. He plays with toys, loves going for walks and car rides, and definitely knows when the snack jar is being opened! He also loves to hang out in the kitchen while his foster mom cooks. He has easily adapted to his K9 foster siblings (7 to 75lbs). He is house and crate trained. Simba s fine around a toddler and a senior who is wheelchair bound. He has worked on basic obedience and his leash skills continue to improve. He can detect light and dark and sees shadows. Time in the backyard looking up into the trees for birds and squirrels is one of his favorites. Because of his years alone in a back yard, Simba was bored and entertained himself by digging, so if he starts digging he is redirected to other activities. Simba’s dislikes include being startled while resting/sleeping, so as a courtesy we always verbally call to him as we approach. Now he lifts his head and then goes right back to sleep!
Simba thrives on routine and security. His ideal day includes a good back scratch, some treats, a walk and a place to nap in whatever room his owner may be! He is AFFECTIONATE, LOYAL AND ADAPTABLE. Simba will need a home with confident pet owner who will give him the time necessary to adjust to his forever home and is engaged with their pets.
