Sierra Monet is a very special girl looking for a special home. This amazingly sweet girl is 8-10 years old and recently has had both of her eyes removed. In spite of her new world of darkness, she is finally enjoying her life.

Sierra Monet was turned into a shelter in North Carolina. Her appearance resembled a dirty mop made of dreadlocks. One of those cases where you wouldn't even know she was a dog and not a pile of garbage. The shelter had trimmed back her hair to discover a half pound tumor, literally dangling down from between her two front legs (tumor tested cancerous but was completely removed). This was an unexpected surprise but not as horrible as what they found next. She had to be sedated for her face to be trimmed and as they removed the hair around her eyes, they expressed their astonishment at the severe infection that they had revealed. Her right eye, along with all the tissue surrounding it, had an oozing, bleeding, infection and keratitis in both eyes. Sierra had a long-standing condition whereby the eyes can no longer produce enough tears to lubricate her eyes. As a result, her eyes became dry and irritated, and eventually, inflamed and infected. The damage was irreversible. Her pain levels were off the charts. There was no doubt the final solution for a pain free life was to remove both her eyes. Prior to surgery, her vision was limited to shadows only. Most of her sight was already gone.

Sierra's recovery was painful but she was made as comfortable as possible with a cocktail of pain killers, anti-inflammatories, etc.

Now, Sierra is doing very well! Her staples are out, her hair is grown back in and she's learning her new world of fumbling in the dark. She is a super sweet girl who is so extremely relieved to be free of her long-term pain and neglect!!! It's very sad that she had to wait until her senior years to know what love is.. but it's better late than never!!!

Sierra is great with other dogs, cats and I would think, all other animals. She is a relaxed girl who LOVES to sit on your lap and cuddle! She learns her way around quite quickly and is cautious in a new environment so she doesn't hurt herself.

Because of her blindness, we, of course, would want her to be in a calm home without toddlers or any commotion that could harm her.

She did seem house-trained prior to her blindness and then we had a set back. Now, she just needs to learn where the outdoors are and what her "potty spot" smells and feels like so she knows to go there. She is doing GREAT in her foster home who is showing her a spoiled amount of love :-) !

If you have room in your heart and home for this sweet girl who is new to love, let us know!

If you are interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application located at
https://dogsunlimited.wufoo.com/forms/adoption-application-for-dogs-unlimited-rescue/

All Dogs Unlimited Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on all shots, and are given a monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventative. Upon adoption, all vet records and any current medications are provided to the adopter.

THE SUBMISSION OF YOUR APPLICATION DOES NOT GUARANTEE AN ADOPTION NOR DOES IT OBLIGATE YOU TO ADOPT. Multiple applications are accepted for any available pet and a home is chosen that is the best match between the available pet and the potential furever family. Your application will be processed as quickly as possible and if approved, a home visit would be scheduled. No adoption is final until an Adoption Agreement is presented and agreed to by both parties.

Our goal is to find the right match of our dogs to their new family so all involved are furever happy! Questions: email adopt@dogsunlimitedrescue.org

And THANK YOU for considering a rescue dog for your family!
