Shine: ADOPTED! Shepherd & Labrador Retriever Mix Kansas City, KS

12/9/2014: Shine is a big handsome Shepherd/Lab mix. He's 8 years old and he has a thick black coat with pretty brown markings on his legs. Shine had a rough life before he came to us. He was taken from a drug house when it was raided. He obviously hadn't been treated well. It took us some time to gain his trust, but he's made huge progress and is doing really well now. He is now a happy dog! BE SURE TO WATCH HIS VIDEO!

Shine is sweet, smart and loyal. He's very calm. He's food motivated-- giving him a treat is a sure way to make a new friend! He is house trained. He also walks very nicely on a leash and enjoys short walks. He likes playing with interactive toys that are filled with treats or dog food.

Shine would do best in a home with someone who has experience with dogs and would like to continue socializing him. He is generally more comfortable around women but he warms up to men, too. He will probably need a home without other pets.

Shine weighs about 75 lbs and has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and treated for heartworms-- he's healthy and heartworm-free now. Shine has blossomed so much-- he will make an excellent companion for the person who gives him the chance he deserves. He's been with us a long time and he has many fans here who'd really like to see him find his forever home! We transferred Shine to our shelter from the KCK Animal Control shelter.

> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home. All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (7 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, coupons for pet supplies and services, toys, and educational materials. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!

> Please note that we prefer and may require a fenced yard for many of our dogs. Exceptions are made on an individual basis depending on the dog's needs, the person's dog experience, the dog's and person's activity levels, home environment and other factors.

> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of our dogs, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the dog home with you that same day.
