Meet Shiloh

UPDATE: Shiloh will be remaining in the care of MAWL permanently. She has been with us for over 1.5 years and is settled here. Additionally, we want to ensure she receives the ongoing medical care she needs. Please consider donating to help us with her ongoing medical expenses. Thank you!

Shiloh is a 7 1/2 year old female beagle mix. She originally came into our care in 2008 and was adopted that fall; however, Shiloh returns to MAWL thru no fault of her own. Her owner's health failed, & she could no longer care for Shiloh. Shiloh is a very sweet dog - and has yet to meet a stranger. She walks well on a leash and has an overall pleasant personality. Shiloh would do well in a home as an only dog or in a dog-savvy home with another dog with similar play style. She does well with cats, but we would advise that she is very food obsessed & would need to be fed away from other companions in the house as she wants to eat everyone's food! (She doesn't beg for human food though.) An active home would also be good as she loves her walks, and a fenced yard will be required due to that beagle nose. Shiloh is viewed as 'special needs' as she was returned to us on daily anti-seizure meds. With our vet's help, we have tried without success to wean her off of the meds, so she will need to continue those daily. A month's supply runs around $30 at the local Target pharmacy. Her new family must have her medicine & liver function checked every 6 months. We have witnessed some mild separation anxiety. She is doing well with a Thundershirt and does not need to be crated when her person leaves. She will use wee wee pads in our absence. We don't think she should go to a family that leaves her alone for long periods of time unless a dog walker or doggie day care were options - she would do great with a retired person or someone that works limited hours or from home.
Shiloh also is prone to seasonal allergies in the summer, which is currently being managed with a very low dose of prednisone and hypoallergenic food (V-Dog). The prednisone & seizure meds both tend to make Shiloh hungry & thirsty more than normal, so careful attention needs to be made to not overfeed her.
Shiloh sleeps on her dog bed at night without issue. She rides fairly well in cars. As we mentioned, she is a very pleasant dog who deserves a second chance at a forever home. She is currently fostered in Cleveland Hts, OH.
MAWL's dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped, dewormed, heartworm-lyme-ehrlichia tested if old enough and up to date on vaccines prior to going to their new homes. We select our adopters through an application process. We require vet and personal references as well as a home visit. We prefer to adopt our pets to Ohio residents. An adoption donation of $175 helps to cover the costs involved.
