MEET SHIBA!
This big, sweet girl is named Shiba! Shiba is around 12 years old and was surrendered to Philly's animal control shelter when her former owners moved and couldn't bring her along. She was timestamped for euthanasia due to the shelter being so full but thankfully, she caught the eye of a City of Elderly Love foster family and is now ready to find the perfect home!
Shiba is the definition of a gentle giant! She's about 85 lbs. of pure sweetness; she's basically a toasted marshmallow. Her favorite thing to do in the world is spend time with her human friends. She loves to lay next to you on the floor and would be an amazing work-from-home assistant. She also enjoys a short walk in the neighborhood, tossing around her rope toys, playing tug, and doing zoomies in the yard! She already knows basic commands such as 'sit' and 'stay'. Shiba is completely housebroken and will let you know when she needs to go out. She's also crate trained and even likes to nap in her crate! Shiba never even barks while at home in her foster home! So despite being a senior, she has great energy and a perfect laid back, gentle personality.
Shiba is not currently living with other pets in her foster home but did well in several meets with dogs at the shelter. She does sometimes bark at other dogs on walks, but mainly because she's interested in meeting them. Shiba is strong on the leash, especially when she sees a squirrel or rabbit but her foster family is working on her leash skills and she's much better with a no-pull harness. Despite being 12, Shiba is in great physical shape and shows no signs of arthritis! She did require surgery to remove tumors along her mammary chain which were biopsied and shown to be malignant carcinomas. The surgeon was able to get as clean of margins as possible and there are no other signs of metastasis at this time but she should receive routine checkups as she continues to age.
Shiba is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love! She is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Interested in adopting her? Visit cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire or email us at info@cityofelderlylove.org!
