Meet Shiba

We are so in love with Shiba. She is a gentle giant, weighing in just under 100 pounds. This girl is in need of a little bit extra TLC and she seems to be loving the surplus of attention. Shiba is about seven years old.

Shiba is heartworm positive. Michiana will help throughout her whole treatment and will offer financial assistance. Shiba also has conjunctivitis and is on daily eye drops. She arrived at the shelter very thin - we are monitoring her food intake to make sure she is gaining weight at a healthy pace. She was perfectly handle-able during her exams and was the most polite lady.

The ideal home for Shiba would be quiet and relaxed so she can stay calm during her heartworm treatment. We would love for her adopters to have experience and knowledge with extra large breeds. Once she is at a healthy weight, she will be well over 100 pounds.

She may be more hesitant when meeting adult males. Shiba has done well being introduced to our male kennel staff but we have taken it slowly and reinforced properly! A slow introduction to adult males will be beneficial for Shiba!

Her manners really are amazing. She walks wonderfully on a leash and has yet to jump on anyone. Shiba is respectful when walking up to new people, as well. She seems to be an easy-going relaxed girl.

Shiba did very good in her male dog introduction. If she can be kept calm during treatment, another friendly, relaxed dog may be okay. If she cannot be kept calm with another dog in the home, it would be best for Shiba to be the only animal in the home right now due to needing to not run and play while she is being treated for heartworms.

As far as kiddos go, we have not seen Shiba around any. Given that she is a bit larger, older children would probably best just so she doesn't accidently knock one over! However, she is very respectful with not jumping!

We haven't known her for very long but have already learned that she loves back rubs and is most motivated by yummy treats.
