Meet Shane

Hi! My name is Shane and I am a 1-year old Chihuahua/Spaniel mix who weighs 14 lbs. I was found as a local stray and really hope to find my forever person soon! Please read my whole profile before applying!

I have to admit I'm partial to the ladies! Men sometimes scare me, and I can become reactive when I'm scared or feel threatened that you are taking me from my person.

I currently live with a few dogs of different sizes and breeds, and get along great with them, although will stick up for myself if challenged. I love to run and play outside! I will entertain myself out in the yard or play with my people and dog friends. I would love to find a home with a big fenced in back yard.

I am almost housebroken and do well in a home with easy access to go outside. I sleep in my crate at night, but will whine for the first few minutes before I settle in. I am neutered and up to date on all of my shots.

Shane is an adorable little mixed breed who loves his person, maybe a bit too much. We think that Shane needs a dog savvy owner or an adult only home who will seek out a professional trainer. He can be very friendly with others, but will react when he feels threatened, which makes him too unpredictable to be adopted to a family with children. Shane will need rules, boundaries and formal training to address his guarding or insecurity issues. A trainer may suggest that certain strategies are used to set limits such as sleeping in his crate at night and not in bed with his people, not being allowed on the furniture, or that that he may need to go in his crate or in another room when company comes over.

We think that Shane would love a nice big fenced in backyard or a single owner that lives in a more rural area so there aren't as many strangers to encounter on walks. Despite his quirks, Shane is a total love with his person and he is going to make a great companion for the right home!

NOTE: Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more
