Meet SHACK!

MEET SHACK!

Shack is a super curly 22lb poodle type dog. He was originally brought to ACCT as a stray so we don't know his exact age but he's estimated to be at least 10 years old. When he was found he had a softball size mass on his backend. Upon coming into rescue with City of Elderly love he was quickly taken to the specialist at Metro Vet to get the mass taken care of. The vet identified the mass as a squamous cell carcinoma tumor and through surgery was able to fully remove it. The tumor cells were malignant so there is a chance the cancer can return and spread, but since surgery Shack has recovered very well and there has been no sign of recurrence.

Shack is truly a special gentleman. Since opening up in foster care he has made it clear that he is Mr. Social when it comes to people. He is blind and a little deaf so sometimes it takes him a few minutes for him to find them, but as soon as he smells a hand his tail will start wagging and he'll throw his head under it to be pet. Sometimes when he knows his people are close but he can't find them he will do an excited little tap dance in place to see if maybe you will find him first. This same little tap dance also occurs around mealtime when he knows people are in the kitchen near where the food comes from.

Shack currently lives with a cat and a few other dogs and pays them no mind, he's much more interested in people friends than animal friends. Shack is house trained, but being a senior he often struggles to hold it through the night. Despite being blind and a little hard of hearing he gets around pretty well, he knows how to go to the back door to be let out and can manage a few stairs. He is not currently on any ongoing medications or treatments but he should continue be monitored to see if any new masses appear.

Shack is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love! He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in adopting him? Visit www.cityofelderlylove.org to complete an adoption questionnaire or email us at info@cityofelderlylove.org!
