Scarlett's Story

Meet Scarlett: The Underdog with a Heart Worth Fighting For

Scarlett is a 5.5 year old, 60-pound Sharpei mix who was saved from the euthanasia list of an overcrowded rural shelter. Scarlett has been patiently waiting in foster care ever since. Far too long, in fact. She's watched others come and go while she stays behind, overlooked time and time again. But she’s still holding on, still hoping, still worthy.

Scarlett is a bit of a loner at heart—independent, self-sufficient, and not one to beg for attention. She's not going to be the life of the dog park or the kind of pup who wants to cuddle strangers. But give her time, earn her trust, and you'll see the sweet glimmers of affection that she reserves only for her people. She’s incredibly food-motivated, which makes bonding (and training) easier, and she wouldn't mind a home with a doggy door where she can choose when to relax inside or sunbathe in the yard. Scarlett will do best as your one and only dog—your solo companion, your steady shadow.

She may not be the dog for everyone, but maybe—just maybe—she's the dog for YOU. If you’ve ever felt like an underdog yourself... if you know what it’s like to be overlooked, or just want to love a dog who needs someone to believe in her... Scarlett might be the kindred spirit you didn’t know you needed. Not every dog is perfect. But every dog, including Scarlett, deserves a chance at love.

If your heart’s tugging at you, don’t ignore it. Scarlett’s been waiting. Maybe she’s been waiting for YOU. For out-of-town adopters, we offer virtual meet-and-greets and can arrange transport (adoption fee includes transport) to many states in the Northeast. (We cannot adopt to Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island due to strict import restrictions).

All of our dogs are cleared by a licensed veterinarian for transport and arrive to their adopters spayed/neutered with age-appropriate vaccines completed and are microchipped.

**We cannot guarantee breed mix. The breeds selected are based on any known information and physical observations.

To see more of the furbabies we rescue and love, follow us on Facebook: Misfits & Underdogs (www.facebook.com/61575337895248)

Misfits & Underdogs's Adoption Policy
Our adoption process is thorough and designed to ensure the best possible match for both the animal and the adopter. We require a detailed application, check veterinary and personal references, conduct phone or Zoom interviews (especially for out-of-state adopters), and sometimes do home visits for local applicants. We disclose all known health and behavior information so adopters can make an informed decision, and we look for a lifelong commitment, including a plan in place in case the adopter can no longer care for the animal.
