If you’re looking to add some cuteness to your life Sassafras is the girl for you.
Sassy is fully potty trained and crate trained. She does prefer to be with her people but is beginning to understand they will always come back.
Squeaky toys are her favorites, she can almost always be found with one hanging out of her mouth. She loves fetch, and keep away, but don’t mistake these short legs for weakness because this girl is undefeated when it comes to her favorite game: Tug.
She will require a strong person to work on her leash skills, as her little body is stronger than she knows, and she tends to be a bit of a puller.
Sassy had a phenomenal time joining her foster mom at work for a day, and welcomed all her new friends (mom’s coworkers) with a happy-wagging tale, and what we think was a doggy smile. Running around the office was terrific but exhausting and was followed by a very long nap and no more running. For 3 days. Play time is great, but nap time is unbeatable to this silly girl.
If you are looking for a huge, sweet, loving, hilarious personality packed into the body of a short legged, big muscled, floppy eared dog, Sassafras is the perfect pup for you!

To set our love bug up for success, we are recommending Sassafras be either the only pet or with a single canine companion. Additionally, we are looking for a potential adopter with either no kids or kids 10+ years old due to our girl's strength.

Our wonderful Sassafras' adoption fee is $300 which includes her spay, microchip, fecal exam, and shots up to date. Our snuggle bug is 1.5 years old, and weighs approx. 35-40 lbs.

All dogs require a $100 training deposit. Once confirmation of the completion of a training class has been sent to the rescue, you will receive your deposit back in full.

As we are a rescue all of our adult dogs/puppies for adoption must be spayed or neutered. Although we make every attempt to have this done before finding their adoptive families, this is not always possible. Please speak with your adoption coordinator to see of this service has already been performed or they will explain to you if your new dog/puppy will need this service while in your care at no cost to you.

When emailing please include your phone number to help speed up the adoption process. Also, for the safety of our dogs we only adopt within a 2 hour radius of Joliet, Illinois, to allow our volunteers to do home checks if necessary.
