Sarge German Shepherd Dog Mix Lenoir, NC

Sarge is a handsome and well-mannered young man. He's not too keen on strangers in his personal space, but will tolerate them once properly introduced. He loves his family, but doesn't choose to greet new people.

With a birthday of Oct. 31, 2017, Sarge weighs in the range of 90 lb.

Sarge has been with his family since he was a puppy. With their young grandchildren moving in with them, they have realized that small children might not be Sarge's comfort level. He is very tolerant, and will get up to move away when the children are playing, but isn't interested in interacting with them. The family is hoping to find a situation that would be more suited to Sarge's interests.

Sarge tolerates polite dogs, once properly introduced, but shows little interest in interacting. He will bark initially at new sights, but isn't aggressive. His foster is getting him out for experience with new sights, scents, sounds, and strangers to help him gain confidence and flexibility.

Sarge enjoys car rides and expresses himself with joyful barking, He communicates with his mouth, so will take his handler's hand gently when excited. He loves sniff walks and adventures.

April 2020: We are not holding public adoption events at this time. Qualified families are being invited to appointments to meet specific dogs. There are currently no opportunities to view multiple dogs and adoption events aren't being held at Tractor Supply in Lenoir.

Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.

If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.

A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. Requirement is a minimum three year vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. We suggest first time pet owners look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience through another rescue or your local government-run animal control agency.

Adoption fee covers two vaccinations plus spay / neuter if using our local low-cost spay/neuter clinic (overnight stay required) and surgery occurs as agreed upon in the adoption contract. Convenience fee equal to refundable spay/neuter deposit may be added if using our veterinarian. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.

We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete.
