SARA IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION
***Sara was diagnosed with cancer and had an emergency surgery to remove a Spelenic tumor on 1/23/2020. Her adopters cannot afford her care. The cancer will likely come back in some other form within 6 months so Sara is back with her original foster family as a hospice foster. They are a wonderful family and Sara will be surrounded by love for the rest of her days ♥
We got a plea from Henry County Animal Control to help Sara, a scarred up pit bull. Sara was obviously in a fight with something - we don't know the details since she was picked up as a stray. Henry County doesn't adopt out pits so Sara's fate was sealed. It's estimated that about 60 pits per month are being euthanized at Henry County alone. It's nobody's fault but the community that has failed these dogs. Sara is beating the odds. Luckily, we had a wonderful family step-up and commit to fostering Sara so we were able to pull her on 6/8/2015. Sara's wounds were much worse in person and she had lots of swelling. It's obvious that she had pups pretty recently so our guess is that someone bred her, weaned the pups, and dumped her. She had an upper respiratory infection that has been treated.
Sara was adopted from our rescue on 2/6/2016. However, in April 2019 we received a call from her family that her mom was having serious medical issues along with changes in her home dynamics. Due to this her current family has decided to put Sara back up for adoption to find her a home that can provide her with everything she needs as well as a forever home. Sara is extremely sweet and loving. She is all smiles all the time. She is about 65 pounds right now and needs to loose about 15-20 pounds. She is fully housebroken and crate trained. She sleeps on her dog bed at night. She currently lives with 2 other younger pitbulls that she does very well with. She is able to stay loose in the house when no one is home and is not destructive in anyway (her housemates are crated). She is currently leashed walk (and walk great on a leash!)and does not have a fenced in yard, she would make a great walking partner for a family! She loves going or car rides and outings to festivals and parks. She loves to chew bones and play with toys but she can get protective over them with other dogs so she is only allowed these items when separated. She is not a big barker and is fairly quiet in the home. She is not a huge fan of water or rain and will let you put a rain coat on her to go outside. Sara adores all children and does wonderful with them, she loves dogs of all sizes and even does well with the family cat. Her medium energy level will get you walking but make room for this snuggle bear on the couch as she loves to chill and cuddle too. Sara knows basic obedience and minds very well. She really is an all around great dog. Sara also makes adorable piggie snorty sounds when sniffing around and snores when sleeping. She is happiest around the family - her biggest desire is to be loved.
Through no fault of her own she is looking for a new family that can love her and commit to her. We know there is family out there for her - we just have to find it!
