Sangria is known as a Teddy bear (shih tzu/Bichon). He weights approx 4 lbs and was born Sept 3.
Sangria was consigned to a dog breeding auction. Instead of being purchased by a breeder, Leia's Hope secured his freedom.
Sangria is a feisty puppy that loves to play with the other dogs in his foster home. He likes to cuddle and dislikes cold weather. He is tiny and seems to always be under your feet and biting at toes and ankles. He would be best not to be in a home with a person who has mobility struggles. He has caused a few near misses with the foster and been mildly hurt when walking under a person's feet. Sangria has gotten sick when taking car rides. He may outgrow this but he may not. Since he is so young, he can't hold it all night and will need to go potty in the middle of the night.
We will be seeking a home with a young playful dog and or children (5+ age) to help him continue in his socialization, training, and learning to be a friendly pup!
Sangria's adoption fee is $415. Due to his age he has not been neutered. A neuter contract will be signed by the adopter. If visiting our vet, the neuter will be paid for. Sangria is current on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and on flea and heart worm prevention monthly. Visit leiashope.org for our adoption process.
WE DO ADOPT OUT OF THE AREA, HOWEVER, WE DO NOT SHIP NOR ARRANGE TRANSPORTS. YOU WILL HAVE TO COME TO DECATUR, IL TO MEET THE DOG. IF FLYING, DOGS MUST FLY IN THE CABIN AND THE EXPENSE OF THE HEALTH CERTIFICATE IS ON THE ADOPTER.
THE APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED BEFORE WE CAN START THE PROCESS.
IT CAN TAKE AT LEAST 7 DAYS TO PROCESS AN APPLICATION SOMETIMES LONGER DEPENDING ON VOLUNTEER AVAILABILITY AND NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED SO PLEASE BE PATIENT AS WE ARE VOLUNTEERS WITH FAMILIES AND FULL TIME JOBS AND DOGS OF OUR OWN TO CARE FOR.
IF INTERESTED IN A PUPPY (UNDER 9 MONTHS): YOU MUST HAVE A FLEXIBLE WORK SCHEDULE OR SOMEONE HOME ALL DAY. PUPPIES NEED TO BE LET OUT TO POTTY OFTEN, THEY NEED SOCIALIZATION AND BONDING AND NEED TRAINING (HOUSETRAINING AND BEHAVIORAL TRAINING). IF YOU WORK LONG HOURS, HAVE A BUSY SOCIAL SCHEDULE OR NOT FINANCIALLY SECURE THEN A PUPPY IS NOT FOR YOU. PUPPIES ARE A 15+ YEAR COMMITTMENT, ADOPTERS SHOULD BE ABLE TO COMMIT TO THE LIFETIME OF THE PET!
