Sandy is a 1.5 year old Treeing Walker Coonhound that is crate-trained and well rounded. This little lady is great with kids, cats, and other dogs! She is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm negative.
Sandy was found on I-20 in the middle of no-where, Alabama. She was almost run over several times before a Good Samaritan was able to get her. They contacted every local resource possible only to find out there was no animal control or shelters in the area due to the lack of county resources and funding. They contacted other local shelters and rescues, but they would only take her with a local ID and area address. They couldn't just leave her in the street to die. Sandy was underweight, had clearly had a litter before, but appeared otherwise healthy. Once they got her home, she didn't seem to be familiar with any of the luxuries of a normal, spoiled house pet. She is working on them all now!
Sandy is amazingly playful. She loves to be around other dogs, has been great with the resident cats, and their 15 month old baby. In typical hound fashion, she naturally barks and is curious to outdoor animals. She can escape a yard with weak spots, so a secure fence is important. Sandy has had a rare potty-accident inside before, but they think she was likely an outside only dog prior to living with them and she will only get better with continued training and crating. She is a little nervous when she does new things, but adjusts quickly and very well. She is even good for nail trims! Overall, Sandy is a very sweet, fun-loving pet that would be a great addition to any family!
