Meet Sandy! Sandy’s foster mum describes her as a sweet, outgoing, happy puppy that loves to be with her people. She is a total clown and is constantly doing funny, quirky things to make her foster family laugh. Sandy’s favorite activities include fetch, chewing on her toys and playing with her canine foster siblings. Sandy can be a bit too playful for some dogs though and would do best with another young, equally active and playful dog. Sandy is a huge suck with her trusted people and is always so excited to see her friends. Sandy loves to meet new people as well and has been learning polite introductions. She can get overly excited and may bark or jump up at first and knows that she must be sitting on her bum in order to receive love and affection.
Sandy’s ideal family will live in a house in the quiet suburbs or country and enjoys spending time outdoors. They will have some dog experience and the time and energy to invest in training a puppy. Sandy responds well to leadership, but having had no formal training, she does still have some puppy behaviours that she will need to work on. She does best with a consistent routine of exercise and positive reinforcement based training.
Sandy does well with children, but given her puppy manners, she’d prefer a home with respectful, older kids (12+) that are able to participate in her ongoing training. She lives with cats now but would be most successful in a cat free home as her energy can be too much for them.
Sandy would love a home with a large fenced yard where she can expend some additional energy after walkies. She is medium to high energy and currently enjoys a 30 min walk before work and 45 to one hour after work. She pulls a bit on leash, especially when she sees another dog, but has been responding well to redirection training. Her new family should be prepared to continue the work her foster has done with leash skills.
Sandy can be trusted with free reign when left alone for a short time, but is still learning not to chew and so she is crated when she’s left for longer periods. Provided she receives consistent breaks, she is house trained but prefers to go in the backyard versus on walks.
