Sammy - pending's Story

**Adoption pending** Meet Sammy! This two-year-old poodle and Cavalier King Charles spaniel mix (our best guess) has just the right amount of sweet and sass mixed with snuggle and playful to delight almost anyone!

Sammy came to our rescue when his previous owner felt like he didn’t fit in with the other dogs in their household. We were asked to help him find the perfect forever home for this energetic sweetheart. Sammy is about 20 pounds and seems to do better with mild-mannered playful dogs, preferably slightly larger than him. He does great with other dogs and cats, once he is used to them, but is a bit sassy when meeting new dogs, so requires some careful introductions. In his current foster home, he has lots of fun wrestling and playing chase or tug with the resident 40-pound dog. Sammy can exhibit some resource guarding behavior (mostly guarding his favorite person when he wants to snuggle), but with the right structure and household canine companions, this behavior can be well managed and has not caused any problems in his current foster home.

Sammy has a lively personality that needs good, structured exercise, as well as free play time. In his foster home, regular brisk walks (about 2 30-minute walks a day) have given him the ability to settle down and learn to sit and focus on learning how to behave. He will need a forever home committed to continuing structured exercise, as well as reasonable rules and boundaries. He would also thrive with a family willing to invest in some training and obedience classes, to help him settle and focus with distractions and other dogs around him. Sammy is not a big barker, but he is alert to activity outside his home and likes to make sure his people know about what’s going on outside the front window.

Sammy has done very well meeting children and would be a wonderful addition to a family ready to include him on their family adventures. He has played well with children around 7 years old and up. Smaller children would need monitoring, as his playful excitement often leads to jumping.

Sammy is crate trained and potty trained, after an initial adjustment period.

This good-hearted young dog deserves a wonderful home with time and energy to enjoy his youthful playfulness, as well as a comfy couch to snuggle on at the end of the day. Sammy’s ideal home would include children and/or a playful dog for lots of fun free-time play, but other homes willing to spend good quality time with him would be considered, as well. He would not be a good fit for an apartment. If you want to support this boy’s bright future, please apply now.

Sammy is neutered, microchipped, wormed, and current on routine, rabies, and bordatella vaccinations. His adoption donation is $650.

Please go to www.wonderpetsrescue.petfinder.com to complete an adoption application, no phone calls please.
