Meet Saint

Intake date 22 December 2020
.
Neutered male purebred border collie
.
Saint is a young deaf dog who came to us to find a permanent home. He lived with his breeder until shortly before his arrival here, and has been well cared for, but needs a home of his own.
.
Saint is in foster, and is being trained to a vibrating collar (non-stim pager) and hand signals. He is very well mannered, loves his humans, and has been good with other dogs.
.
Saint is crate trained, walks reasonably well on leash (he does like to be touching, we are working on that), and appears to be situationally housetrained.
.
While Saint is deaf his biggest obstacle is his under-socialization. He grew up in a rural area and likely never been in a house or met many strangers. Situations or objects that we take for granted can be scary for him. His impulse is to run away or avoid scary things -- in foster he is consistently being introduced to new places, people, and situations so that he can gain confidence. He has already come far learning to face stressful situations, realizing they are not so scary after all. He will need a home that has the commitment to support and encourage him so that he can fully integrate into his new world.
.
Saint weighs just under 40lbs, and is located in Maryland -- we do not ship dogs. Updates will be shared here as we have them. Questions about dogs are generally not answered here due to staffing limitations.

PLEASE READ our procedures for adoption prior to making inquiry regarding this dog. If you are looking for additional photos, video, or information on this dog, you will likely find that by searching our facebook page for their photo/description album.
.
Please see our main website at www.mabcr.org for more information regarding the adoption of this or any dog from our rescue.
.
Please note that while this dog is currently available, any dog on our site may have an adoption pending and may not be available to you at this time. The same dog may later become available if the adoption falls through.
.
Our website www.mabcr.org will give you details on our adoption procedures as well as an application for adoption. An application must be submitted prior to 'matching' an adopter with a dog as all dogs do not fit into all homes. We pride ourselves in our adoption process, we take the time to get to know our adopters so that we can place a dog with them that they can enjoy for years to come.
.
Please understand that we will not discuss dogs with individual adopters until after the application process is completed.
.
Our rescue does not have a public facility, therefore there are no visiting hours. Appointments to visit with the available dogs are made after the application process has been completed by our staff.
.
To assist any dog within the MABCR organization, please consider making a donation to the general fund or to the medical fund. All dogs coming into our rescue are fully vetted (s/n and core vaccines) prior to adoption.
.
Rescuing animals is quite expensive. If you are unable to adopt, but would like to help this, or any other animal in our system, please consider a sponsorship donation.
For information on our sponsorship program, please contact Sarah at SLR@mabcr.org.
.
Thank you for your interest in Mid-Atlantic Border Collie Rescue.
