Meet Sage

*MORE PICS BELOW*Sage was pulled from a kill shelter on March 10, 2010. This handsome boy spent his whole life in a shelter until his arrival in Maine on March 12, 2011. He is now about 2 years old.

Check out his hike-http://www.fosterdogsummit.com/2011/11/two-pups-two-peaks-one-goal.html

Sage has a gorgeous black coat with white spotted feet and white specks all over his face. He is a medium sized dog, weighing around 50 pounds. He loves to play, run, and fetch. In fact, his foster mom says he can easily run for 6 miles. With that being said, he is doing better on a leash, but can be stubborn at times, sitting in the middle of a walk and refusing to move. Sage is very affectionate and adores human attention. He loves to give kisses and cuddle. When he falls asleep on the couch, he likes to have his head right up against his foster mom as he adores human contact. She absolutely adores him!! He also likes to get belly rubs when he is on his back. Sage gets along well with other dogs, and currently, he lives with 1 other dog. He does not do well as an "only" as he needs other dogs to follow. Sage loves to play with the other dogs, but he also likes to lounge on the couch. In addition, he does well with cats. He is crate trained, and his foster family is working on basic obedience training as he likes to jump on people so he would do well in a home with older kids and adults. Younger children would not be a good fit. Foster mom update- "He's a love bug with me and my son... He's learning some basic commands and manners, does ok on walks. LOVES being in the car! He's a great dog who just wants to be with his people!" Overall, Sage's ideal forever home would be living with a loving family who would spoil him with attention, give him proper guidance, and provide lots of playtime. All known information is listed here. If it is not listed here, then we do not know if this animal is good with cats or kids. Before sending an inquiry, please read our "How To Adopt Page & FAQ" pages of our website. http:www.almosthomerescue.net."

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning "pending adoption".

If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.

SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO ALOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.

HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS ALOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVILENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.

PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!

We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $250.00 for altered dogs over 6 months of age, $300. for puppies 6 months and under, All Senior dogs 6 years or older have a reduced adoption fee of $200. This includes vaccinations, spay/neuter and transport from Arkansas to Maine. All dogs will be tested for Heartworm prior to adoption. Almost Home Rescue will process your adoption. Applications can be found at www.almosthomerescue.net and can be e-mailed to hssc_ahr@yahoo.com for this particular dog.
