Meet Ryder - Foster or Adopt

My name is Ryder and my family surrendered me after 14 years. (I know, it's super-sad... poor baby).

I could be the perfect pet for a human senior with compassion to keep me company.

The move has been stressful for me. When they first dropped me off at my foster home, I paced by the door for hours waiting to see them again, but they never came back. Ryder needs to fall in love with a new family, and vice versa.

I am a friendly, sweet and calm dog, and I get along with other dogs, cats and children. I wasn’t trained with my previous family, so I don’t know basic commands like sit and stay, but I’m very food motivated and teachable!

I’m in good health for a senior, but have a few very minor items:

In summary, prescription dog food for sensitive stomach (no one is sure I still have a sensitive stomach, they just never tried a different food with me) but that's what I was being fed, I also have a skin infection from a groomer but that is clearing up, and I take 2 pills at night. Not too bad! AND we have donors/sponsors who will supply one year's worth of prescription food and my medication.

I can sleep on my own bed, but my foster mom had me sleep with her and I loved that! Human beds are so much nicer! I also love cuddling on the couch, going for walks and playing with my favorite rubber toy. I also run around in the yard and, for a senior, I’m pretty energetic! But I’m also a klutz - It would be great if my home had no stairs or stairs with carpeting. (Or someone who doesn’t mind giving me a lift!)

At my previous home I did well with potty training, but the move has been stressful for me and although I don’t have accidents in the crate or on the couch or bed, I haven’t learned how to pee in a yard yet. I was used to getting walked to potty but now everything’s changed and it’s still new to me. I haven’t learned how to adjust to a new potty schedule yet. I’d need someone who can help me learn how to get on a new schedule - potty training should take about three weeks . Honestly I'm just a little confused being re-homed after 14 years with my family. And I'm sad and lonely.
