Rusty(ADOPTED!) Beagle & Shepherd Mix Chicago, IL

**RUSTY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!** Rusty is an adorable, loving, and goofy guy looking for a loving family. This sweet boy was rescued from an overburdened animal control facility in rural eastern Kentucky in December of 2020 when he was about ten months old. His original family turned him in when they could not keep him from wandering off their property and could not afford a fence. They were worried he could be hit by a car. He appears to have some Shepherd and maybe Shetland Sheepdog or another type of herding breed and Beagle somewhere in him, but we cannot say his exact breed mix. We can say, though, that he is 100% adorable! Rusty is estimated to be about 18 months old currently and weighs 30 pounds. We are not expecting him to get any larger, so he is a great medium size, not too large, not too small.

Lovable Rusty was adopted through Pal's Place early this year; however, his adopters faced an unexpected life change and no longer felt like they could provide him with the care and attention he deserves, and they tearfully surrendered him back to Pal's Place for placement.
He can sometimes be timid when meeting new people and in new situations but warms up quickly. He loves to go for long walks, and he loves to play ball! He will thrive in a home that can provide exercise and playtime throughout the day. Once he's had his exercise he's happy to curl up on the couch with his favorite people. Rusty is housebroken and knows several basic commands. He also loves other dogs and loves to wrestle and play with them. He would make a great companion for an existing playful canine in the home with a similar energy level to his. He can, however, be reactive/talkative when he sees other dogs on leash. He really wants to say hi and gets overly excited and frustrated when on lead. We are hoping to find adopters who understand this behavior that is so common in dogs. His previous adopters also noted that Rusty could be vocal when left alone, especially when crated. Because of this, we feel his most successful placement would be in a single-family home instead of an apartment or condo where his barking could cause friction with close neighbors. Rusty has been bounced around more in his short life than any dog should be, and we want to find adopters who can really commit to him and provide him a forever home. He is anxious for his happily ever after and truly deserves it! Rusty is in a foster home in Chicago and can be seen by appointment once an application is submitted and approved. Pal's Place relies solely on donations to care for the animals in our rescue. • Rusty's adoption fee is $375. This fee covers the cost of his neuter, initial vaccines, microchip, and initial de-worming. This donation helps to cover any necessary medical care to prepare him for adoption. Your donation also helps save other animals like Rusty from euthanasia. Pal's Place cannot hold dogs for more than a couple of days after an application has been submitted for a meet and greet.
