Meet Rusty
Rusty
8yr old JRT/Chihuahua mix
Welcome to the new Rusty (we’d say new and improved but he was always great…he just needs an opportunity to show it). Rusty’s had a rough road in the last little while but things really are picking up! He is still a shy guy and shows some fearfulness when approached too quickly or if voices are raised. This cutie has surprised his foster family with his quick progression. He sleeps in his crate every night, is good with the two older resident dogs, ignores the two one-year old cats (except when they’re playing – he’ll have none of those shenanigans! He barks to let them know he doesn’t like it) but could be good with older chill cats.
Rusty sleeps in his crate at night and has no accidents. He has not yet perfected house training but he sure is learning fast. He’s still very shy on lead as the outdoors are big and scary at first for a little guy but he’s getting used to it. Some slow steps and a lot of patience will help. Rusty should not be left on his own outside as he may start easily and think about running. He will require soft food due to a lot of rotten teeth being removed. And boy, does he love his food; he likes to guard it too! He LOVES men but has gotten used to his foster homes two resident females and asks for LOTS of cuddles and kisses. While he is a lap dog he ISN’T a carry-him-around kind of toy dog. Rusty spends his days sleeping quietly on his dog bed beside his foster mom’s work desk (unless someone is in the kitchen – then he has to go see if they’re getting food). When he is awake he likes to be the centre of attention. Rusty would fit ideally in a household where there is at least one person home most of the day. He’s still got some fear to work through but he’s a tough little cutie. A calm household with no children would be a must for Rusty. He would *not* do well with active or large dogs. Rusty has been neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested, microchipped amd treated with Nexgard Spectra.
