Meet Ruger (Neutered) (Photos 3/25/2024)

Ruger is a cute 3-year old (possibly older) male Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV after hours on the evening of February 25, 2024 and left in our care along with his two companions (Beretta and Remington). The individual who drove them to our shelter did not leave any information with them, so it is unclear whether they were found as strays or were owner surrenders. None of the trio were wearing a collar, and they were not microchipped.

Ruger has a black/brindle-and-white coat, a long tail, and a darling face with with hopeful innocent dark brown eyes, a patch of brown around his right eye, a black button nose, and large floppy ears.

We took preliminary photos of Ruger on February 26, 2024 when HSOV Kennel Tech Aubrey Hall spent time with this little man and gave him the courage to walk on a leash for his outdoor photo session. Ruger had a super sweet disposition that day and wanted attention more than anything else in the world .. And he wiggled all over at the slightest hint of getting that attention (smile).

Ruger was temporarily listed as a 'Special Needs Dog' since he had some skin issues which were very visible. Ruger was examined by one of our wonderful local veterinarians on February 27th and the diagnosis was a rather good one for him and the other dogs who came in with Ruger .. He was diagnosed with demodectic (NON-CONTAGIOUS) mange/skin infection and was immediately started on treatment including medicated baths.

Ruger weighs 29 lbs and isn't a very big boy when you see him in person.

In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Ruger was held for three days so that his family (if he was actually a stray) would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Since Ruger was not reclaimed, he will be neutered after his medical treatments are completed and will soon be ready to find a loving home with someone who would love/spoil him to his heart's content. Ruger could also be fostered-to-adopt with an approved HSOV adoption/foster application.

These photos were taken on March 25, 2024 when HSOV Kennel Techs Hannah Mcclain and Hayley Sturm were royally entertained by Ruger during an impromptu photo session. Ruger is a happy little guy with an affectionate, outgoing personality, and he still loves attention more than anything else in the world. Ruger's coat is once again looking beautiful and surprisingly has grown back in with stunning black/brindle shading.

Ruger was a good sport about wearing a bright pink headband with cute 'Easter Peeps' in several of his pictures before posing 'au naturale'. Ruger showered Hannah and Hayley with super sweet puppy kisses and nice 'bunny hugs' which were cute, heartwarming, and some were downright hilarious.

Update: Ruger was neutered on August 5, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine.
