Meet Ruger - COURTESY LISTING

**Ruger is NOT yet part of the Serendipity German Shepherd Dog Rescue (SGSDR) program but is being listed as a courtesy for the owner in hopes of finding a direct adopter or a foster home to care for him if we can bring him into the SGSDR foster program.**

This nice young boy is Ruger, and he is about a year old. He is looking for a foster or foster to adopt with SGSDR due to his owners having a pet allergy and Ruger having allergy issues himself (explained below). Being that he is only a year old and due the pandemic, he hasn’t had much experience socializing with other animals. He has been in a boarding kennel for a week (while owners were on vacation) but he had alone play time. They had conducted a “temperament test” and said that he didn’t show any aggression towards other dogs, but was certainly anxious and unsure and therefore didn’t stay in the yard. When his owners walk him, he does bark at other dogs, which may be from excitement or insecurity. With proper introductions and supervision he could likely be ok with a furry friend. He is very loyal and protective of his people.

Ruger is listed here as "special needs" because like many German Shepherds do, he has some skin allergies. With lots of advice from the vet and some trial and error, his owners have narrowed it down to carpet/dust mites and seasonal allergies. He has been on a restricted diet before to see if that was the issue, but it was not the cause. For this reason, his owners are hoping we can help find Ruger a home where there is no carpet.

Ruger lives indoors and is house and crate trained but may need some time getting acclimated to his new home with your family. He has lived with small children before and adores any attention they give him. However he is a bit timid with new people at first, but once he gets to know you, you are sure to have made a new friend. Like a typical young shepherd coming into his own he can be mouthy (all in good fun) and have some "selective hearing" but most of us know what that's about... :-)
