Meet Rufus – The Loyal Companion You’ve Been Waiting For!
Rufus, a handsome 3 year old, 68# Black Mouth Cur mix, is a testament to resilience and loyalty. Despite a rough start, including neglect and being left outside due to exceeding an apartment’s weight limit, Rufus hasn’t lost his happy spirit!
Rufus has the most adorable little smile. We love his little toothless grin! He’s just a laid back, easy fella when he gets outside the stressful shelter walls!
Rufus is a gentleman with impeccable house and car manners. True to his guardian breed traits, he’s loyal, alert, and intelligent while sweet and gentle with every person he meets. Rufus is a bit of a couch potato—he’s always ready for some quality time—especially if belly rubs are involved! He also loves lounging outside, soaking in the fresh air and sunshine, and napping!
Rufus would do best in a home with an easy-going companion or as an only dog. He thrives in a calm, quiet environment. He does love to play and romp around with friendly, even-tempered pups at the shelter!
Rufus’ best volunteer friend spends a lot of time with him outside of the shelter. They report that he is an easy, quiet, happy boy! He really is so lovable and quite the couch cuddle bug!
Rufus is ready to leave his past behind and share his loyalty and love with a family of his own!

• All of our animals are spayed/neutered and current on shots.
• We do not do same-day adoptions. You will be asked to return for at least one follow-up visit, then take the dog home for a trial period before officially adopting.
• You must be 21 years or older to adopt from STAF.
• Due in part to increasing coyote activity/incidents in the area and the difficulty of predicting how a dog will respond to invisible fence training, we can not adopt to homes with invisible fences.
• We do request vet and personal references.
• We can facilitate adoptions within a 30-mile radius of our Cincinnati-based shelter.
