Meet Rudy

Where to begin with Rudy? When we first crossed his path back in April, his name was Creed and he had spent the last 3.5 years on the end of a chain. We reached out to his owners with the desire to help them better his life. To this day, we are so grateful that they allowed us access to Rudy. Over the next several months we improved Rudys' life significantly. Volunteers provided shade, pools, raised beds, a softer collar and much needed medical care. Rudy was sterilized, treated for ticks and tick fever! Over the next multiple months we visited Rudy weekly, bringing him treats and keeping a helpful line of communication open with his owners, assisting them with whatever they might need. Over time, Rudy began spending a few hours each day off leash and we celebrated the improvements in his life. Recently, it came to us as a bit of a surprise when Rudy's owners starting sharing their frustrations with us regarding his behavior. The complaints about him chewing his bed, destroying the piece of wood that provided his shade, and in two instances, he was hanging from his chain on the other side of the fence. The complaining became louder and louder with each visit. We walked a fine line in our attempts to help them understand that Rudy was bored and was going crazy living on the end of a chain. When we spoke of options for Rudy, it became apparent that they did not want Rudy anymore and their plan for him was not acceptable to us. Thankfully, ownership of Rudy was legally turned over and today he is thriving! Rudy has a wonderful future in front of him. He is responding beautifully to all the humans he interacts with, he walks like a dreamboat on a leash, and is non-reactive when other dogs pass by. We will be placing Rudy as an only pet at this time as we do not know his history with other dogs or cats, and quite simply; he just needs his people to focus on him as he continues his journey. Rudy is gentle, grateful and soulful...he is beautiful. Rudy may look a bit older than his age, (3-4 years), as his has endured brutal summers and cold winters on the end of a chain. But now his days are filled with kindness and adventure. In fact, on walks he literally stops to take it all in, it is as if you can read his mind. If you are interested in adopting Rudy ($200 donation), please take a moment and fill out an application: https://www.povertyspets.org/adoption-form An application is a must. Once received, you will be contacted within 48-72 hours. Thank you!
