Meet Rubix

Rubix is quite a puzzler. Relations with most dogs are fine, but if another dog challenges her, then she holds her own. Most polite dogs that can tolerate her play style get along well with her.

With a guesstimated birthday in June 2020, Rubix weighs about 30 lb. She's very intelligent and athletic. She's eager to please and focuses on her people. Her play style is nip and hassle - very typical of cattle dogs. She also loves to run, but has good recall in a fenced yard.

Cats share her foster home and although she'd like to play chase-the-cat and is very curious when they are on the floor, she hasn't offered to hurt any of them. Most are very dog friendly, though there is one assertive cat that will slap her. They have decided they don't like each other.

Rubix is comfy in a 42" crate which allows her to sprawl. She's leash savvy, but will pull when excited or in new situations. She demonstrates some leash reactivity toward other dogs, so her handler should be alert in public situations.
She has shown no nipping tendency toward people and is working on self-discipline to get out of her crate in the morning as well as when she's on leash.
She's house-trained when kept on a regular schedule. She'll sub-vocalize or emit a series of sharp barks when she knows her people are in the house but she's still in her crate. That's to communicate she wants to be with them.

**********

April 2020: We are not holding public adoption events at this time. Qualified families are being invited to appointments to meet specific dogs. There are currently no opportunities to view multiple dogs and adoption events aren't being held at Tractor Supply in Lenoir.

Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.

If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.

A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. Requirement is a minimum three year vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. We suggest first time pet owners look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience through another rescue or your local government-run animal control agency.

Adoption fee covers two vaccinations plus spay / neuter if using our local low-cost spay/neuter clinic (overnight stay required) and surgery occurs as agreed upon in the adoption contract. Convenience fee equal to refundable spay/neuter deposit may be added if using our veterinarian. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.

We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is www.petpartnersrescue.org.
