Meet Roxie

Roxie is a sweet, gentle 24 lb., four-year-old copper Pomeranian Spitz mix.

You will note she has a “wonky” eye. This is a birth defect and the Ophthalmologist at the Guelph Medical Vet Hospital said her eye is fine as is, she can see out of it and it does not cause her any problems. If she gets stressed or scared, she may rub at it, so a bit of eye lube will help. We think it adds to her beautiful and distinctive appearance!

While not a JRT, she is currently living with a pack of them, has been accepted as a member and is enjoying the company. She would be equally happy as the only dog in her adoptive home. She is looking to be homed where she won’t be left alone for long periods of time.

Yes, she is a bit overweight, but with exercise and a strict, healthy diet that can be remedied. Foster mom has been introducing her to veggies and she is accepting of them (even though she loves French fries!) She is gentle taking treats. Also, she has a very thick and fluffy coat which adds bulk, so will need to be groomed but she loves being brushed out.

She will suit an active single person, couple or quiet family with older, responsible children. She will bark when first meeting people but that will pass once she knows everything is going to be okay. She can be a bit shy of men at first but is learning they are great and will even let her snuggle up to them in bed. She likes that.

Roxie is a low-key girl who doesn’t seem to have any issues with being moved about and being asked what to do. She can be very timid and submissive but loves walks (she will tug you along, so please bear with her - she will get better). Roxie loves to play ball and with her toys, especially her stuffies (sometimes their arms will fall off but if you fix them for her, she will be happy to continue to play with them.)

Roxie has only had one accident since coming into foster. She will go out and do her toilet when asked.

Roxie came from a noisy household that overwhelmed her - she is a quiet girl at heart. She is eager to please and wants a home that is peaceful and where she need not be afraid of loud things. If a loud trigger sets her off, she will respond to a gentle voice and repetition. She’s a smart little girl and understands.

Roxie’s foster mom says: “She is a great wee girl and until the treats appear you won’t even know she is there. She loves getting on the back of your chair or if you want will sit on your knee and keep you company. She just wants someone who will give her lots of love and an active lifestyle. She is very sweet and loving. When you ask her things, she will sing away to you, very softly but right from her soul. Honestly, she is a dream girl, and so eager to please.”

Roxie is being fostered in Angus, Ontario and her adoption fee is $525.
