Meet Rosemary

Rosemary, 9 year old, spayed female, standard Dachshund, 21lbs

*Fostered in Rockville, MD*

Rosemary is a spit fire, full of spunk and personality. Her joy in life is toys! She loves soft squeaky toys and if you won't throw one for her she will toss it up and chase it herself! She is friendly with other dogs, big and small but humans have to earn her trust. She likes to feel humans out on her own time. She likes to be close to her humans but does not allow pets, so we just offer gentle head rubs. She is active and still able to maneuver a few stairs slowly. She can hear and see although she does have early age related changes. She came in as a stray with a horrible skin infection, missing lots of hair and with a horribly infected mouth. All of those issues have since been treated and she is doing great. Rosemary needs a home without small children and would prefer a home with a fenced yard.

LIKES
Tossing her stuffed toys in the air and catching them
Stuffing her toys under furniture to the point that she can't reach them anymore then barking hysterically until someone gets them for her
Snuggling/hiding under blankets
Sitting on your lap or snugged up next to you
Food!
DISLIKES
Wearing sweaters
Dogs getting up in her face
Stairs
Being touched, unless it's someone she likes, and trusts, and they are only very quickly wiping away an eye crusty
That last one can be a doozy. She will bite anyone who touches her, especially on her back. Then she'll give them a look like they just committed the most awful of betrayals and run away. On the positive side, once she's had time to get to know and like you, she doesn't bite as hard. And she had an extensive dental and lost many teeth when she first arrived, so it's not too toothy.

This no touching also extends to when she's crawled up on your lap or snuggled next to you on the couch. I make sure I always have a throw pillow nearby in case I need her to move and she's not moving. If the throw pillow, not your hands touch her, she's ok.

We think this is a behavior caused by maybe an old trauma or sensitive skin? She came into the shelter with a horrible skin infection and hair loss, we are not sure if that's related or not. But as I said she still loves to snuggle, getting under the blanket, right up next to you.

She is a particular girl, but we appreciate that and know that she deserves a loving forever home! Please feel free to submit an application on our website if you are interested.
