Meet Roo
Roo is a 6.5-7 year old english cream dachshund. She is a mini at 11 pounds and is a very timid girl.
Sadly, Roo was a former breeding dog who spent her entire life in a crate. In November she was rescued by a private citizen and has since had a spay and a dental. However, she didn't thrive in this home as the family is on the go and traveling frequently, and she will stop eating and drinking for several days if she has a chance of scenery. This little girl is looking for a forever home that sticks mostly to home and can provide her stability and training. Since she spent most of her life in a crate, she is not potty trained. She will go outside some of the time but will also go in the house or on a potty pad. Her foster home is working on this, but any interested adopters should know this will be a 3-6 month process. She would benefit from other potty trained dogs in her forever home to help her learn.
Speaking of other dogs, she is indifferent at first but will warm up and snuggle and interact with them once she is comfortable. It's clear she's never been around medium and large dogs, but is learning to acclimate in her foster home. Bonding will be slow but will happen eventually. For now, Roo is people focused and very much so in need of love and human snuggles. She does have separation anxiety and will whine when left alone.
We have had Roo vaccinated and she is decompressing in her foster home. If you are interested, please read her criteria and apply on our website if you wish to be considered:
https://www.portlanddachshundrescue.org/adoptionform
Criteria:
1) Home setting (for noise insulation) with a fenced yard for potty training
2) Friendly companion dogs-small sizes preferred but not required
3) Very patient and determined owners to tackle potty training
