Meet Ronan Ranger - SPECIAL NEEDS
1. About Ronan - Applicants must apply at https://www.lahpstr.com to be approved and considered.
Ronan is estimated to be 3-5 years and weighs 11 lbs. Our best guess is that he is a Shih Tzu - Dandie Dinmont Terrier mix. He is a "low-rider" with short legs and Terrier-like hair. Ronan navigates exceptionally well despite being blind. His medium-grade heart murmur does not require treatment. Ronan is a feisty little fellow who loves his food and treats, and will come to the kitchen to protest if one is ever late with his meals!
2. Ronan's temperament and energy level
- Loving but likes his space. Becomes a snuggle bug at night, wanting to share a pillow and sleeping close to his human;
- Good with other dogs;
- Low energy. Loves to hang out on his bed with his favorite toys that include soft pumpkins;
- Housetrained but may mark around other males;
- Loves car rides and exploring the yard.
3. Vetting
Fully vetted - neutered; UTD on core shots and bordetella; comprehensive bloodwork; urinalysis; fecal test; 4Dx test; dental; and microchipped.
4. Health Challenges
Ronan is blind and has a medium-grade heart murmur. He has seen a veterinary ophthalmologist and cardiologist. Ronan takes prescription eye medication twice a day and eye lubricant at least 3-4 times daily. He does not need any medication for his heart.
Going forward, Ronan will need annual monitoring with eye and heart specialists to keep him in the best health.
5. Adoption Donation
$300
6. Ronan's ideal home
Ronan's perfect family will have lots of love, understanding and patience to care for a dog with his special needs. We prefer a family with at least one stay-at-home or retired adult, or one adult who works from home to keep up with Ronan's eye medication regimen during the day.
A fenced yard is preferred since Ronan loves to explore outdoors and for his safety, will need to be supervised in a secure area.
We will require the family to contractually commit to his veterinary care going forward. Ronan comes from a harsh, neglectful background and we want him to be assured of his best life now.
Ronan will make a wonderful little companion! Are you ready to open your heart and home, and commit to this gorgeous baby boy?
We encourage applicants with a history of responsible pet ownership, or first-time dog owners who can demonstrate a commitment to loving a rescue dog, to apply at https://www.lahpstr.com. Our website contains answers to most of your questions.
