Meet Rocky

Rocky (an Asian mix of some kind) is not, nor has he ever been, part of our rescue - we are listing him as a courtesy for his current care giver.
Please contact Kyle (details at the end of these notes) if you are interested in finding out more about this dog:

1. Age and weight

8 years - 65 lbs

2. Spayed/Neutered or not

yes. The LA County Shelter did that recently.

3. Vaccination status (rabies, DHLPP etc)

current

4. Being wormed/flea/tick treated monthly?

no

5. Any medical issues (when did he/she last have a vet check up?)

none. I’ve had him Since Nov 2021.

6. How does he/she behave around men/women/children/strangers/people on the street/other animals

very friendly or indifferent around humans. Around other dogs, he will randomly attack if he feels they are too close, or a potential threat, or don’t recognize him as the alpha dog.

7. Normal daily routine (food/exercise)

I board dogs and he will very often run and play with them in the backyard a large portion of the day. He eats daily.

8. Indoor or outdoor dog? (or both)

he’s content with either. His owner kept him outside. I’ve kept him inside. While inside he has access to the outside and will spend as much time out in the yard as he does inside.

9. Level of training (what commands does he/she know/how does he/she walk on leash/reaction to seeing other dogs when on leash)

he does not respond to formal commands: come, sit, stay, etc. He will look at me, like he is trying to understand or maybe it’s a ‘screw you, I’m not doing that”. But I’ve noticed when other dogs are asked to sit, and will follow their lead and obey.

He is also either very relaxed or very intense! When it’s meal times, I’ll crate him or put him outside alone and he will sprint to get in the crate. Not move fast, he will go from 0-100 in an instant, to the point that he will slip and slide and roll around in the 42” crate. Same thing with going in or out. As soon as the door opens he is a 0-100 to get through the door first.

He is some what crate trained. For food he will go into the crate. While others are eating, he will patiently wait. But when he is ready to get out of the crate, we will do what ever he can. He has damaged plastic crates and has bent up 42” metal crates by forcing his way out, even with “no commands”. When he wants out that is what he will do.

10. Any particular likes/dislikes (how is he/she about being handled/petted – any sensitive areas, like ears, feet etc.)

He is a very loving and cuddly dog. He loves being next to me. He also wants to be loved. At times in the night I’ll feel him jump up on the bed just so he can lay next to me.

11. How does he/she react to riding in the car/going to the vet/can he/she be lifted

He loves car rides. He’ll stick his head out the window and feel the breeze in his face.

12. Has he/she ever bitten any other animals/people? If so, what was the severity and was medical action needed?

YES. Every 1-3 days he will attach one of my boarding dogs. I read on the AKC site that Jindos can be very intolerable, and this describes him 100%. If a dog walks too close to him while he is laying down, or a playful dog lightly paws him to play, he will attack the dog and get 2-3 good bites in before he will stop or I break them up. Because of this, I can’t keep him. I can’t put the other dog’s safety at risk to keep him.

13. Any separation anxiety issues or other behavioural issues?

No. None that I have seen.

14. Where did you obtain the dog from and why are you attempting to rehome the dog now? How long have you owned the dog?

Kind of a long story. I’m a trainer and boarder. His owner found me on Rover.com. He asked me to care for him over Thanksgiving weekend. He told me he was having problems with his credit card and he would pay me cash. When it came time to pick him up, he asked if I could watch him for a few more days. Over the next 6 months, he would promise to pick him up and pay the bill. He would set appointments and never show up. The owner has never fulfilled his word of picking him up.

Feb - April, I fled small claims court on the owner. I also asked the Judge to order me to surrender the dog to a Rescue so it would release my responsibility. Unfortunately the Judge ordered me to surrender to a City Shelter. I told the owner and he said he wanted to know when and where so he could pay me and get his dog. I did tell him. The owner met me at the Shelter but failed to pay me. The shelter said they could not take him. The owner said he’d pay me Monday, and never did. That Monday I took the dog to another shelter.

I felt bad that the dog was in a shelter, so a few days later I went and paid the $120 fee to adopt the dog.

The dog was very appreciative but it only took a few weeks for the dog to start being aggressive again.

15. Have you contacted any other rescues for assistance?

No, but I’m starting too. I can no longer risk the safety of other dogs for him.

16. What are the best methods of contact for people interested in either fostering or adopting your dog?

email - woof@TrainedGoldens.com or my cell - 818.398.0500 (I’m Kyle)

Rocky is a very intuitive, sweet dog. He loves to cuddle and is very gentle, except around other dogs. He would be best in a home without other dogs.
