MUST LIVE IN ROCHESTER, NY AREA TO ADOPT and preference given to having a physically fenced in yard for him to play in.
Rocky was surrendered to our rescue in August 2021. He has been adopted out and returned. Rocky has a reactive behavior which was unknown to his foster parents in the beginning. Rocky showed zero reactiveness while with foster provided proper introduction was done.
Rocky has since been taken to a professional trainer for an evaluation. The trainer doesn’t feel Rocky is a threat nor does he feel Rocky has an aggressive personality. Trainer did offer to help with Rocky’s forever family to continue to curve his reactive trait.
Rocky is still in the care of his foster parents and has been working on being nonreactive. He has been doing a lot better with strangers entering the home or walking by. Rocky still barks excessively but relaxes after a minute. He does not lunge or try to harm. Rocky's foster mom has worked on teaching him "thank you!" and "it's okay". Teaching Rocky that it is okay to alert but to relax once his humans assess the situation and tell him the situation is under control (the guests are not a threat). Rocky will continue to need this training to help build his confidence and lower his uncertainties about unfamiliar people.
Rocky's Pros: Huge cuddler; Likes other dogs; Likes to play with humans and dogs; *Excellent with being groomed; Comes when being called; Knows to stop barking when told "its okay" and to "leave it"; Potty Trained & Alerts; All vet care done; Great car passenger; No separation anxiety; *Absolutely loves walks;
Rocky's Cons: Reactive to new people; Begs for human food; Chases cats; *Doesn't do well with nail trims (groomer needs to do); *Will need to learn how to walk loosely on leash. (A No-Pull harness is recommended.)
Rocky will do his best with a family that has No Children or Older Than 12 Years of Age and no cats.
Rocky is a wonderful boy and has so much love to give. He deserves his furever home and his foster parents are determined to find it!
