Meet Rocky

Hello. My name is Rocky, aka Rockstar aka YBT (yellow belly traitor)… read on and you'll understand.

I am a middle aged (4.5 year old) hunk looking for a forever home. I am not described as tall, dark and handsome but I am the strong, silent type. I have excellent manners in the house, and do not chew or destroy anything. I love, love, love food. I will go to my bed and wait eagerly to be told its okay to go to my bowl and eat. My two favorite activities in the world are walks and car rides! I love, love, love to go for walks—so much so that my favorite people in the world are the dog walkers. I’m a terrific and eager car rider. I love to go on adventures. I also love to have my head, ears and butt scratched. My social skills with other dogs still need a bit of work, as does my leash work – to be honest, I pull a bit because I love to go for walks. But not everyone is perfect, right? Oh and I have allergies. I will obey basic commands quite well – sit, stay, come, back up, down, and crawl. I never try to run away, even on the rare occasions when I get the opportunity. I also don’t chase anything. And I mean nothing — not cats, not squirrels, not tennis balls, not squeaky toys, not deer, not even wild turkeys. Nothing, that is, except food. My foster mom and foster grandma both throw kibble across the room, and I love to chase it and eat it. Truth be told, I have been known to get into the garbage if you leave it out and it smells like food, and the other day I ate a chicken sandwich that had been left on a plate on a table just my height – but, hey, what red-blooded American dog wouldn’t? My ideal future home would be with a strong, calm individual(s), who can be my leader. A leader who will take me on many long walks, preferably at a good clip, and who is happy to have me as an only dog, although I might be super happy with a submissive, non-reactive doggie friend. I also need someone who will give me a little time to trust them. Respectful children in the home should be fine, as should cats with a proper and gradual introduction. I presently live with rabbits and, although I haven’t been granted the freedom to interact with them too much, I also haven’t shown any interest in them — even though one of them seems to want to check me out. If you think we might be a good match, please reach out to my friends at K9 Kismet.

In a nutshell:

Medical: allergies requiring allergy drops before meals and periodic veterinary.

Behavior: Very quiet dog. Calm at home, and not destructive, even when left alone. Does well with confident people, especially those who take him places and convey that they like him. Is a good watch dog and will warn perceived intruders. May need time to develop trust. Is not socialized with dogs; seems to want to meet other dogs but can stare at dogs out on walks and will react if seemingly attacked. May growl if disturbed at night while resting in his bed; needs to be woken/roused verbally not through touch. When in an excited state, may forget obedience and listening skills. Pulls on leash and zigzags. He is crate trained. Has basic+ obedience, and is very food motivated, making him easy to train. He is not food possessive with people.

Likes: being scratched, car rides, walks, food, and adventures, including going on vacation and staying in hotels
