Meet Rocky
Loving, well trained dog with beautiful eyes looking for a new home.
Rocky is a 4 year old great dane/pointer mix who loves people, especially his immediate family. He is just under 70 pounds and is up to date on all of his shots with no health issues. He did have partial CCL tears to both legs but after medication and recovery he is doing great.
Chasing squirrels in the backyard, going for walks and riding in the car are some of his favorite pastimes. He is very good with commands such as sit, stay, place and heel. In fact, he has been known to stay on his bed, just 4 feet from a full bowl of food for more than ten minutes, waiting on his owners (who got distracted) to give him a verbal "OK" telling him he could eat.
He was successfully crate trained and potty trained as a puppy. Although he was in a crate for many months, he prefers to sleep in his doughnut dog bed in the bedroom with his owners. He sleeps through the night with no issues. When he needs to go to the bathroom he sits by the back door and nudges the door knob. He has been trained to not jump up on people or furniture. In the winter months his favorite spot is in front of the fireplace on a thick wool rug.
He is very protective of his home and alerts us when people are walking up to the house. He is sometimes scared of new people but has been trained to "place" near the front door and wait till the guests are inside and we have given him an "OK" signal to come and greet them. Once Rocky meets new people he loves them and they love him.
Why are we looking for a new home for Rocky? As we mentioned above, Rocky is very unsure of new people. While we have managed to figure out a good greeting system for adults, he has a hard time adjusting to young children. He is good with our kids but they have lots of friends/neighbor kids coming to our home on a regular basis. We just don't feel comfortable with him around those small children.
He would be a great fit for a single person, couple or family with older teenagers. He is very good on walks and weather permitting, and will ride in the car for hours while we run errands. He cannot be around cats but is good around other dogs.
