Rochester, 1.5 years old, neutered male, Shepherd/Retriever mix, 45 pounds. He is in a foster home Houston, Texas and can transport to an approved adopter.
Rochester or as his foster family calls him Astro, is a super friendly dog. He shares a foster home with another dog. He likes to lure her into play with a toy. They like to wrestle, play chase and jump around. He would do best with another dog who has a similar play/energy style. He has also gone to doggy daycare so he can continue to meet new friends. He did wonderful! He is excited when seeing other dogs on leash.
He is moderate energy. He is a young dog who by our best guess has some working breeds. He will do best in a home that can give him both physical and mental outlets.
We have no history with cats. He has met kids as young as 2 years old, but has not shared a home with them. He is happy to receive pets. Rochester can get a little mouthy at times, so we recommend a home with kids 10 years and older.
He tends to pull on leash and does better when walking with his foster sister. It seems like he takes cues from her. He is fully housebroken and does amazing in his crate.
He gobbles down his food and is happy to finish any other bowls if they don't eat fast enough. He is happy to share his toys and loves tug of war. We don't think it's a required for another dog in the home and does okay playing with his toys. We think he would enjoy a fur sibling who likes to play. When Rochester first left the shelter, he was scared of doorways, new rooms, places etc. He learned to follow his fur sister's lead and that has really helped him grow into the confident dog he is today.
Rochester is extremely trainable and eager to learn. He knows sit, down and stay. He is GREAT at fetch. A funny habit he does- he will put his toy away in the bin before choosing a new one. He can calm down and picks up ques. He is a really fun boy who loves to play. His tongue is always wagging! He is very affectionate and likes to rub his body against you like a cat. He rides really well in the car and loves to tag along on your errands.
As mentioned earlier, when first arriving to the foster home he was scared of new things. He is no longer timid and has come a long way. His foster home has worked a lot on socializing him in new environments, new dogs and new people. He is sometimes shy when first meeting a human, but if they have treat he warms up quickly.
We are looking for an active home for Rochester. A home who will continue to work on his basic obedience and social skills. A home who will be patient as he becomes comfortable in his new surrounds and routine. We would love to see another dog in the home, but not required. If you're looking for someone to join along in your adventures- Rochester is your guy!
***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. ***
