Meet Rochelle aka Roo

Roo (Rochelle) is a spayed, fully vetted 9 month Standard Poodle mix puppy, born July 19/21, who currently weighs 42 lbs and will still grow a bit as she matures.

She is a sweet, goofy funny girl guaranteed to bring smiles, and has won the hearts of all who meet her! She is the sweetest girl with a tenacious spirit and precious soul.

She has now been spayed and completed her orthopedic surgery which required the amputation of her deformed front leg which was completely useless and caused her significant pain.
Roo was born with this defect so never knew life with four legs and has always rocked her mobility as a Tri-pawd puppy.

Due to her size, young age and delayed training as a result of her surgery, as well as the fact that she is only three legged, Roo is not suitable for a family with young children or dogs who are rowdy and may charge her or knock her down.
She is good with children but her safety is our utmost priority

Roo is still working on not jumping up or knocking over small people, and still learning not to mouth in puppy play style. Roo needs to attend training classes as a mandatory part of her adoption contract.

Roo is NOT hypoallergenic nor non-shedding, though she is low shedding. She requires frequent grooming.

She was surrendered without any vet history so we are not sure of her breed mix, she is very much standard poodle in her temperament and size but her coat is softer and less curly than a pure poodle.

Roo is still just a puppy and will need someone home often (not alone more than 4 hrs at a time) as well as a commitment to attend training classes to continue working on her training and socializing

As a young puppy with a life expectancy of up to 15 years or more, Roo is not suitable for older seniors.

Roo is energetic as all young pups are, but also is learning how to settle and loves to snuggle.
She goes for shorter walks, and enjoys going into the backyard to wander around and sniff as she pleases.
She likes puzzle games, toys and chewies.

Roo loves other dogs, will wag her tail and want to play.
She would not be a good fit for another large high energy dog though due to her three legged status, but does love to play and spend time with dogs.
Due to her age and energy, she would be "too much" for a senior dog.
Roo would also be fine as an only dog as she adores her humans.

Roo is not a big barker at all, and would be suitable for an apartment or detached homes. She can manage stairs.
She is house and crate trained and a very intelligent girl who thrives on learning new things.

MEDICAL CONCERNS? None.
She has healed nicely and has no difficulty walking or doing stairs. She can get into vehicles or onto furniture fine by jumping up.

Roo is truly a gem and will thrive in the right home with ongoing training.

Roo has met cats on her walks with no issues, and had the pleasure of visiting a cat in a volunteer's home
"She barked at her a few times (seemed playful). They were nose to nose at one point, no issues. We rewarded her good behavior any time she was respectful with Loki and redirected easily.

Loki (cat) growled at her a couple times, usually if Roo barked at her, threatened to swat her but never needed to. She didn't go on the ground at all, but she didn't run or go up high to avoid her either. She was face level for most of the visit and didn't seem too threatened.

It seemed like Roo wanted to play more than anything (I think). I didn't see any aggression towards her, but I definitely could see her chasing her if she ran around."

Only applicants who meet each dog's criteria for their ideal forever home will be contacted. You MUST submit an adoption application prior to being considered , see instructions at the bottom of this profile.

Notes:
*Pools and ponds must be separately fenced from yard
*Owned or rented homes welcome with landlord's permission
*Registration with an approved training school is a mandatory part of Roo's adoption contract, to set her up for success with her new family

Hobo Haven is located in St Jacobs Ontario.
For approved families, we require in person meetings in St Jacobs ON after your application has been approved.
If you are not willing to drive to this location to meet our dogs if you are approved, please do not apply. We do not meet elsewhere nor deliver dogs.

If you are interested in applying to adopt a dog from Hobo Haven Rescue, please use this link to submit an application https://hobohavenrescue.ca/dog-adoption-application

Roo's adoption fee is a minimum donation of $500 (reduced rate as a tripod)
Her vet expenses have exceeded $5,000 through the rescue but she is now 100% , has always been healthy aside from her leg needing amputation, and is now ready to start her new life!

Adoption fees include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations, fecal testing, dentals if required, deworming if needed, Heartworm and Tick disease testing, bloodwork, Advantage prevention, and all medical treatments and surgeries required during their time with us.

For anyone possibly interested in adopting from Hobo Haven, here are a few, but not all, criteria to be aware of:

We require all serious applicants to watched "Petfooled" which is a free documentary at this link https://tubitv.com/movies/494913/pet-fooled
Our motto is "know better/do better" and we ask all adoptive families to be as committed to providing our dogs with quality nutrition as they are to providing love. This documentary is not advertising, purely just educational.

An adoption application must be completed and approved, as well as a virtual home visit (Zoom during COVID), prior to meeting available dogs. All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit.

We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions. All dogs are in private foster family homes, not a facility.

Any questions may be emailed to hobohavenpetrescue@gmail.com

Please do not ask us to make exceptions, we set these protocols and policies for the dog's best interests which are always our highest priority.

Emails are best, our volunteers work full time and are often not able to answer or return phone calls in a timely manner.
