Meet Roan

Thank you to BBBR Volunteer Rosalie for these beautiful pictures of Roan!

This is a courtesy post for Roan
MEET ROAN AT WEST VALLEY HUMANE SOCIETY located at 5801 Graye Lane in Caldwell!

He is a 3 year old American Pit Bull/Boxer mix.

Roan weighs 75 pounds!

During his assistance in the clinic, we have learned that he likes to help with computer work. He will stick his head under your arm to make it easier to pet him. He does not get into the garbage and does not beg for foot. He sits nicely for treats. He has a jaunty gait and doesn't pull on the leash. He has been around the veterinarian's children (2 and 6 years old) but doesn't seem enthused by them. He tolerates them, so toddlers probably are not his cup of tea. He would do better with older children/teens. The shelter clinic staff have fallen in love with Roan and he has become so special to them that he will be adopted out of the clinic! He is available to meet Monday-Friday from 11 am - 6 pm! Stop by or give us a call if you have questions about him! 208.455.5928 is the best line to reach us at for questions relating to him!

He is only vocal when alerting you that someone is there. We also suspect that he will be eager to guard his home, so he will need to be properly introduced to all visitors and his new owners will need a tall and secure fence for people who are walking by.

Roan was owner surrendered so he could find a home that was a better fit!
Roan has been known to chase small animals including chickens, cats, and squirrels. In observing him in the clinic, he has ignored kittens running around, even when he has a bone out. Potential adopters should be aware that there could be potential issues with small animals. He sniffs other dogs but is kind of aloof and can take them or leave them. He has had good introductions with larger dogs here, but will require a mandatory meet and greet to make sure he fits in well with his new friends.

Poor Roan has some separation anxiety but is crate trained, so keep that up with him to help him out while you are away from work!
Roan's new family will need to be committed to obedience training. Because he has not received basic training, he has become protective of his food and toys as well as spaces he feels he needs to protect. Because of his protectiveness, Roan will need a home with children over 12 years old who can give him all the space he needs. He also needs a family who will help him lose a few pounds. He has a beautiful, shiny, brindle coat with white "Irish Spot" markings. His teeth would make any Hollywood starlet jealous.

Thank you to Dr Talitha Neher for this write-up.
