Fostered in London
River is a one year old, 12 lb. male Terrier mix.
He is happiest snuggled up with his people, as he has a lot of love to give and he is a good learner.
Not knowing where he spent the several months of his life, he does take a little to warm up and can be a little skittish initially.
In his own home, he can be tentative when feeling scared but has shown no aggressive behaviour to act on these feelings. Outside the home he simply retreats and looks for reassurance. This can also be true in walks, if feeling scared he tends to stop and look for reassurance but has improved greatly in the last month now walking on a lead without issue.
When he first arrived, he would protest and really didn’t know what to do. He would do well in a secure, fenced yard. He's very slim and managed to slip through our fence rails a couple times. Thankfully, he hasn't gone far, but one never knows when a rescue dog might take off if given the chance.
River loves to play and is learning to play with his toys. He loves other dogs and tends to be the submissive of the group when with other dogs . He’s gentle and loving and great with kids. But given his skittishness, older kids would be best.
River came to us house and crate trained. He sleeps in his crate and although initially had some separation anxiety, he has settled well and will happily go to his crate at bedtime, he would however much rather snuggle up next to his person in the big bed.
River is house trained but since he is still a young dog he does still need frequent bathroom visits to avoid accidents. So his people need to be home regularly throughout the day.
Coming from Louisiana, he is not a fan of the cold and sometimes needs some convincing. A good dog pal in the home to show him the ropes would do him well. He is very treat motivated and eager to learn so with some time and training, he will have no problem learning some new tricks.
River would do well in most environments, he needs lots of love and encouragement as he is still young, but with mutual trust he has so much potential and will no doubt become a very loyal best friend or shadow for life. If you think River might be a fit for you, please submit an application using the link below.
