River is a very happy, handsome young Australian Shepherd who is ready for adoption. He is about 16 months old, he is a few pounds too thin at 42 pounds, and he has a very nice black tri coat and naturally bobbed tail. River is housebroken, crate-trained, and he is just starting to learn his basic obedience commands. So far he has earned a “C+” grade in his leash skills but this will improve with training, and he is a great passenger in the car.
River absolutely loves people! He hesitates for less than a minute when he meets someone new, and then its party time! This medium Velcro boy loves to be around his humans but he does not get underfoot. River also loves other dogs, with a particular fondness for the ladies. He is a medium-to-high energy young boy with a nice off switch. He loves playing chase-and-be-chased with his foster dog pals and zooming around the yard, but he then settles nicely as he enjoys getting as many pets as he can. He is also learning how to play with toys. River has not been exposed to cats while in our rescue.
The ideal family for River is active, available and happy: active because River will be at his best with a family who loves sports and outdoor activities; available because River will benefit from continued training and attention; and happy, because River loves happy! A fenced yard is required, a playful young female dog pal would be amazing, and any children in the home should be at least 12 years old.
