River is eager to please and is constantly making her foster mom laugh with her long tongue and silly faces. River is a dream inside the house in terms of manners: she doesn't counter surf, keeps all four paws on the floor when meeting people, is reliably housetrained, and likes to share space with people. She is great at entertaining herself and loves to play with kongs, bones, antlers, bully sticks, and other toys. This gal is smart and eager for a family to teach her all of the commands her doggie friends already seem to know… she has mastered “sit” and the “I am so cute” look ... with a little patience, time and hotdogs, she will be a superstar amongst her doggie circle! River is slowly accepting her crate and only barks for a few minutes before settling down.
River is appropriately named because this gal LOVES water. Swimming, retrieving, frolicking- you name it, if it’s in the water, she loves it! She also LOVES walks and car rides; if you need a shotgun partner, she is your girl!
What River wants: River loves playing with other dogs but she wants the dog shenanigans to stay in the dog park so she is seeking a dog free home to rest her pretty head. Ditto for the kitties, please and thank you. River is a people-oriented dog and her love language is touch, so she would like a family that is as affectionate and loving as she is!
She sounds perfect, right? Well, like all of us who are brave enough to look in the mirror (or at our 2 legged kids, spouses, etc), perfect doesn’t exist. So this is what River needs to work on… like many many many dogs, River isn’t great meeting dogs on the leash (in professional doggie lingo, that’s called leash reactive). She also doesn’t like fences between her and other dogs when she is meeting them. Because of this, we are requiring an experienced adopter that understands that leash reactivity is something that can be worked on and respects her fence/barrier pet peeves. We are also requiring either no fence or a 5 foot privacy fence. Lastly, townhouses and SFH’s are fine but an apartment would not be a great fit for River… random dogs unexpectedly popping out of doorways, elevators, etc would make her salty instead of sweet.
Disclaimer: Please know this is a recently rescued dog that is still transitioning into a new home environment. Training, and even personality and energy levels are constantly evolving as the dog starts to feel better emotionally and physically. Your new dog will take days or even weeks to fully settle into his or her true self. What you read in this bio is a snapshot of this dog’s evolving personality. Additionally, the age listed is an estimate provided by the shelter and/or veterinarian. Different vets can provide different age estimates. So always consider the lab you are adopting to be within an age range of a couple of years of what is listed. Also remember, while we are a lab rescue, we do not have papers on these dogs, we cannot confirm any breed specific claims, and many of these dogs may be mixed with other breeds.
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING ONE OF OUR DOGS... please visit us at www.luslabs.org and fill out an adoption application. Once submitted, one of our Adoption Coordinators will be in touch!
