Meet Rio

Rio is young, approximately 2 years old and 14 lbs. While in our care, Rio has been fully vetted, including completing heartworm treatment, vaccinations and neuter.

Rio was found as a stray and showed signs of serious abuse, neglect, and tested positive for heartworm disease. He has made great progress in our foster care program, and truly needs the perfect match to enjoy the rest of his life.

The ideal adopter for Rio would be a very patient, quiet home with very low traffic that will work on professional training with him. Experience with chihuahua attitude is a plus! Rio will need time to adjust and his adopter will need to understand that and be patient. Rio does not seem to mind other pets, including cats. He cannot go to a home with children of any age.

Rio loves to go for long walks and needs plenty of exercise. Rio will need to continue training and support to build his confidence and show him the world is not such a scary place. Rio loves to nap, loves to put his butt on you, and loves to play with slippers. He tells you when it's breakfast and dinner, and makes us laugh every day.

Rio is crate trained, He is not housebroken yet, but we are working on it; and he was just recently neutered. Rio is also currently taking anti-anxiety meds daily.

We do our best to describe the dogs the way they are in their foster home. Difficult cases such as Rio come into shelters and rescues every day and it is our hope that they can emotionally and physically recover from their past. You are welcome to submit an adoption application for Rio at www.marilynsvoice.org. If all goes well with your application, a meet and greet is set up between the Rio, the foster parents, and the potential adopters. The foster parents know him best and any discussion about Rio will not be a fairy tale but the reality of his day to day existence as he evolves.
