Riley's Story
Lil itty bitty Riley, tiny girl (much smaller than she looks in her pictures! 7 -8 mos 12 lbs, she is a happy girl with a lot of spirit. She might be chihua/ dachsund mix? Definitely won't be very big! Pretty short statue,
** Please see our FB page, Save the Tails Rescue Leesburg, VA. Scroll back (to August)To see many more pictures and videos, we don’t post all day, so you’ll be able to find her.
Riley is utd on vaccines, dewomer, and preventives for her age. She arrived 7/9/25 driving over 6 hours from rural McDowell County, W.V. She was great in the crate in the car. After some rest, she was ready to play with her sister and it only took 3 days and she was playing with the foster’s 75lbs dog.
Riley is a happy little girl whose tail is always wagging! She loves belly rubs! It takes her a little while to warm up to new people, she’s had a lot of change, after all, but once she warms up, she’s very affectionate. She does seem to pick one or two people to bond with, maybe the chihuahua part of her? To set her up for success, she needs her forever home to be one where there is already a dog there, big or small it doesn’t matter at all, she likes them all. At this time, with further assessment, we are recommending an adult only home. A quiet one where there isn’t a lot of people coming in and out would be best. A fenced yard, even if small is best.
She loves to fetch. She loves to play chase with other dogs. She’s good with cats. She can be talkative when playing with dogs. She loves other dogs!
Her litter was seen being dumped by a pick up truck that put them all out on the side of the road and drove away. She is looking for a forever home where one of the adults works from home or is a stay at home. She is too young to be left crated all day while you're at work. She’s housebroken. She’s crate trained. Riley is much better on walking on a leash now! *UPDATE* Riley was adopted at the end of August, we have learned she would do best in a home where they don’t have a lot of people coming & going. A quiet home where she can play with you, fetch in the yard, and cuddle after. She really had a rough start and it seems she really needs a peaceful home.
**Adoption Process** Refer to savethetails.org, download the application, save it as a PDF, it will be editable.
