Meet Rigs aka Rigatoni

What can I say about Rigs? He is a special, special puppy...

The little that we know of him - he was from a litter of 4 puppies and the one not chosen. He was then left at the a rural shelter in southern Ohio for a few months. During his time at the Amish farm and then at the shelter, Rigs had little to no human interaction and we think that the interaction he had originally was not the greatest and helped foster his fear in everything.
Rigs came to us as a puppy (roughly 9 months old) with no name the day before Thanksgiving. He was very very very timid with us humans but got along pretty well with the 2 resident mini schnauzers...we didn't have intentional-Rigs initiated contact until the beginning of February. Now he's trying to make up for lost time and get all of the pets that he's missed out in his earlier life. He loves his chin scratches and noggin rubs.
Did I say he was timid? Haha, he is a special little pup but it has been an honor to watch him grow into the pup that he is today. Rigs still is timid with all new people, things and sounds. But, like the picture shows, he really wants to be a cuddle bug. He's more of a woman's dog, but will warm up to men given enough time and patience.
Rigs is crate trained and has no problem going into his kennel when we leave the house. Because he's so timid by nature, he's a very polite puppy when walking through the neighborhood, he will definitely take cues from his person.
We are currently working on fear reactivity with anything unknown -- bigger dogs, other people, bikes, etc. Rigs has been known to scale our 4' wooden fence to go say hi to neighbor dogs, but not their owners. To help with his anxiety, Rigs is on a prescription of Trazedone, he takes 1 pill twice a day with a little bit of peanut butter.
Rig's perfect forever home will be a calm environment with structure - he does best with set routines and at least a 5 foot tall wooden fence. He doesn't seem to have an adverse reaction to cats or kids, his first defense is always going to be to bark and then run and hide - so while he is adjusting, he will need to have a safe space (he currently will go behind our couch or under our bed). Because he gets along with the two resident dogs and would shimmy the fence to visit the neighborhood dogs, with proper multiple introductions, he could have a fur sibling. The thing to keep in mind with Rigs is that everyday there is something new for him to experience and learn, the key to a successful adoption is going to be time, patience, and repetition. Confidence building classes are highly recommended for the future family for Rigs as well as obedience classes. He is very smart but very timid, I can't stress that enough.

Rig's adoption fee is $300. He is neutered, UTD on vaccines, micro-chipped, heartworm negative and on heartworm/flea/tick prevention.
