Rex’s FAQs

What is One Dog at a Time ODAAT’s adoption process?

We wanted to explain a couple things about adopting a new family member thru our organization, One Dog at a Time ODAAT. CHOSING A FOREVER FAMILY We are very serious about placing our animals in the perfect homes for their needs. We also want to make sure the animal you are interested in will fit in with your family and your lifestyle. We feel this way with the elderly animals, as well as the puppies and kitties. Each animal has it's own personality. Being a foster based rescue this allows us to learn so much about their quirks, likes and dislikes and individual behaviors so we can make sure they are placed appropriately. Our longest ever rescue resident was Sara. It took us 3 years, 3 months and 1 day to find her the perfect family. We knew we would find them, it was just when. We are committed to the animals we save. It is not enough to just save them once. We also guarantee we take back our animals if for any reason our adopters cannot keep them. Our contract actually requires they come back to ODAAT. If a dog is used to sleeping in bed with their owner... we will not stop until we find a family that is willing to allow them to sleep in bed and snuggle under the covers. If a pup is used to someone being home a lot of the time... we will make sure they are matched with a family that is home often. If a cat dislikes the chaos of a busy household, we will only place them in a calm home. Once an ODAAT animal... always an ODAAT animal. We pride ourselves in the fact that we have only had a handful of returns in over 5 years because the dog or cat was not a good match in the end. We search for these animals forever families. When other humans have failed them... we refuse to fail them again. We want to thank our applicants for their patience during the application process. ADOPTION FEES When you adopt one of our animals from ODAAT, your adoption fee covers the next animal in need we take in. Our fees are based on age, not breed. We rescue ANY animal in need. We also take in the worst of the worst abuse and neglect cases. Rarely do we get an animal in that has even seen a vet. Our dog adoption fees are as follows: 8 weeks to 1 year $450.00, 1 year to 3 years $400, 4-7 years $350.00, 8 years and up $300. All dogs will be dewormed, flea treated, up to date on all 3 vaccines, bordetella, distemper and rabies, microchipped, spayed and neutered (unless medically unable to be), Lyme tested over 6 months of age, if positive we pretreat prior to symptoms with 30 days of Doxycycline and Preop bloodwork 5 years of age and older with dentals when needed. Our cat adoption fees are as follows: Kitten adoption fees are $100.00, Cats 1 year and older $75.00. All kittens and cats will be FIV/Felv tested, dewormed, flea treated, up to date on shots, microchipped, spayed and neutered (unless medically unable to be), and Preop bloodwork 5 years of age and older with dentals when needed. ALL animals will be altered prior to adoption... no exceptions unless deemed medically unable to be by a veterinarian. NOTE: All pet adoptions in Pennsylvania are mandated to be taxed at .06 percent PA Sales Tax. The animals in our care are very important to us. We consider them a lifelong commitment and want to ensure their safety and wellbeing for the rest of their lives. Our adopters are very important to us also! Without you and your family giving them a chance to be loved and cared for, where would they be? Please know that ODAAT is an all-volunteer Humane Rescue group, so please be patient with us through this process when applying for one of our animals. Any questions please feel free to contact us at, adoptodaat@gmail.com. Thanks so much for considering Adopting!
