Meet Red
A note from his buddy:
I met Red, a lovely mid-size pup in November 2023. We enjoyed some walks and buddy program outings until he got adopted. Unfortunately, he was returned on 01/08/2025, no fault of his own. He probably has already spent 6 or 7 months at Humane and he is still languishing, waiting for another chance.
This Tuesday, the staff thought Red would be the perfect candidate for an outing with my friend's two dogs and I knew he loved hiking. Off we went.
Red was very calm in the car. Once at the parking lot (Colorado Trail), he got acquainted with Luca and Romeo. The introduction was quick and Red took to both dogs in a nanosecond.
At the beginning of our hike, it was hard for Red to see his two new friends running around freely while he had to be on a leash. He was definitely frustrated, tugging with vigor.
However, more dogs showed up with their humans on the trail. Red got easily distracted and, curious at first, decided to interact some more with the newcomers. And in the process, he calmed down.
Eventually, Red, Luca and Romeo fell into stride. It was great to see the 3 of them in sync.
We continued up to Gudy's Rest where we all took a quick break. Red, unlike his buddies, had
never been up there but he had kept the pace.
As we were heading back down, I took a fall and Red came to my side right away to assess the damage. I have experienced that before with a couple of other pups I was walking. It felt as if Red was concerned as he patiently waited for me to stand up again. So sweet!
Back at the trailhead and before we parted, my friend commented on Red's good manners, strength and playful behavior.
After an 8 mile hike, Red was ready for his long awaited lunch. Too bad we had to head back so soon!
Was he ready to jump back in the car and snooze on the way back? Sure.
Was he happy to greet the entire Kennel Staff when I brought him back to LPCHS? Absolutely.
Will he sleep well tonight? I sure hope so!
