Rain will remain with her family until she can be placed in an appropriate home that fits her needs! She is not for a first time dog owner. Here is what her current owner has to say about her!
1. DEAF/doesn’t respond to most correction. Rain really needs someone with time and patience to work with her. Very high prey drive, once locked onto a target she’s difficult to distract. 2. Likes to choose to ignore commands but has the drive to learn 3. Very hand shy (has never been hit in our home, we are unsure about her previous home. She doesn’t like brooms or fast hand movements. Hates the vacuum) 4. Slight food guarding with other dog in the house. Never showed any reactivity towards person taking food away though 5. Absolutely NO CATS as her prey drive is very high. No young kids. (13+ fine) 7. No small dogs or small livestock such as rabbits, chickens etc. 8. Possibly ok with large dog (lived with large male GSD and did fine, but has very alpha personality so would depend on other dog) 9. Loves to play with big dogs she likes but can get a bit intense and seem aggressive in her play style. 10. Will fence fight relentlessly (always checks to see if other dog is there when let outside) 11. Digs a lot when she’s bored (needs secure yard/plenty of activities. I think she would highly benefit as a companion animal as she thrives off of being with her people) 12. Chews/shreds things heavily when bored (ex. Chewed food bowl, backyard hose, chair legs, shredded blanket in kennel... etc) 13. Weird about going through doors. 14. Knows how to sit with hand signal or for food/treats 15. Needs to learn leash manners, (she has close to none) Wants to be head of the “pack” and pulls horribly. 16. Leash reactive with other dogs (sometimes once let off leash she’s fine. It depends) 17. Very calm and well-mannered when indoors as long as she has people around. 18. Frantic when crated initially, but will calm down and curl up to sleep eventually. (A toy to chew helps her calm down) 19. Loves car rides but does better restrained because she wants to “help” you drive 20. LOVES water/snow 21. Has occasionally peed indoors to mark her territory, otherwise completely house trained. 22. Is used to being crated at night, but will also happily sleep inside on a bed. 23. Really likes carrots/ enjoys whole large carrot to chew 24. Enjoys hard chew toys/hooves/antlers. (Good way to keep her happy and entertained when she can’t be supervised so she doesn’t chew other things)
